Spray River Loop

The spray loop as it is commonly referred to is really a fireroad that leads all the way up the spray river where it connects to Spray Lakes just south of Canmore.  Most people take the ten kilometer loop.
The starting point in the trail is a parking lot located east of the Banff Springs Hotel.  The trail takes you up the spray river but since the starting point is a bit high up the valley already you don't gain to much elevation on this road.   You will know when to turn around or follow the rest of the loop back to the golf course when you see a picnic table and a clearing with a sign directing you.  The trail back to the golf course is a wide single track where you sometimes share the trail with horses.   It is a very fun ride and keeps the heart rate up.
If you are more enthusiastic.  You can ride your mountain bike all the way to the spray lakes and back but this would be around forty k.  Some do it as a large loop where they go down to Canmore and back to Banff on the highway.  Also, groups often car pool and take one car to the Spray Lakes end and ride down to Banff, pick up another car and then go retrieve the origional one.  Definately a fun way to go.

Sports on this trail.  Hiking, Mountain Biking, Cross-Country Skiing, Horseback riding, Skate-skiing.
